Why do I need a Clue account?

To start using Clue, you’ll need to make a free account. This ensures that your sensitive health data is stored in a safe space, where your privacy will always be protected.

By creating an account, your health data is safely stored on our EU-based servers instead of directly on your device. Why does this matter? In case you lose your device or change devices, you can easily use your account to sign in and access your backed-up data. You’ll also be asked to set up a password for your account, so that only you can access it. 

In the past, it was possible to use Clue without an account. Over the years, a lot has changed when it comes to how we store and share data on the internet. We have also witnessed firsthand the heartbreak of users who didn’t have an account, and whose data was only saved on their phone and not backed up on our EU-based servers. Phones are often lost or stolen, and in these cases, we unfortunately have no power to help retrieve lost data. 

It was for these reasons that we made the decision in 2019 that the safest place for our community’s data is on our servers, via a verified account, and not just on personal devices.

Protecting your privacy and keeping your sensitive health data safe is at the core of everything we do at Clue. We’re protected by one of the strictest privacy laws in the world, the European GDPR, and work incredibly hard to protect our users’ data.
