How does the chat work?

To help you understand how Chat With Your Data works, we’ve put together a list of the most common questions:

What information does the chat use to answer my questions?

Only your Clue tracking data is used (except your ‘Daily notes’ and ‘Tags’). It does not use any other user’s data. It’s designed to not use external sources, such as internet websites, however if this does happen, please report this to us.

What kinds of questions can be answered?

The feature analyzes your tracked data by looking at your period dates, your cycle symptoms, and the frequency of your experiences to find patterns. Right now, it can provide you answers for these sorts of topics:

  • Cycle statistics (e.g. cycle length, period length, cycle variation, typical/atypical classifications). Ask questions like: “Are my cycles regular?”
  • Predictions (e.g. next period, period on particular dates, PMS due, fertile window days). Ask questions like: "Will I have my period on [date]?"
  • Cycle symptoms (e.g. summary of how often you tracked a symptom, when you usually experience a symptom in the cycle). Ask questions like: "How regularly do I have cramps during my cycle?"

Why did the chat say it can’t answer my question?

There are two common reasons why the chat can’t give you a response.

The first reason is that the question may be outside the topics which this version of the feature supports (see above). For example, you cannot ask the chat yet how the Clue app works or get medical advice.

The second reason is that you may not have enough tracked data in Clue yet to give a confident answer. In this scenario, you’ll be told to keep tracking and ask the chat again in the future.

Why does the feature need a certain amount of tracked data to answer?

The feature is designed to help you understand patterns in your own tracked data. Some questions require a minimum amount of information, such as several completed cycles or multiple symptom entries, before we can provide a meaningful answer.

If there isn’t enough data yet, we’ll let you know and encourage you to keep tracking. This helps ensure that the insights we provide are based on your own data rather than assumptions or estimates.

Can I use the chat for getting medical advice?

No. The feature does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment/medication recommendations. It only summarizes and explains your own tracking data. Users with medical concerns should always consult a healthcare professional. The feature is also clearly disclaimed in-app as being powered by AI technology and able to make mistakes.

The answer provided looks wrong. What should I do?

This feature is in beta right now and can make mistakes. If any content looks unsafe or inappropriate, or you’d like to give feedback, please contact our Support Team.
